Abel Tasman National Park Trampers Transport

"Run By Trampers For Trampers" Updated 21st January 2012

Abel Tasman National Park was badly damaged by record flooding December 2011. The track is now open from Marahau through to Wainui Bay . DOC hope to have Whariwharangi Hut and campsite open by 28th January 2012.

The road to Wainui Bay is closed to ordinary public vehicles from Tata Beach.

Nelson Lakes Shuttles now have a special Civil Defence Permit to pick up and drop off passengers at Wainui Bay.

The road through to Totaranui is closed to all traffic and will probably be closed for rest of the summer of 2012.

The Abel Tasman Track is one of New Zealand's most popular tramping / hiking tracks. This South Island tourist spot is on everyone's "To Do List". To overcome the overcrowding DOC have introduced a much needed booking system for the huts and camping sites. Expect this track to be very busy over the summer months.

Summer can be a lot of fun and you have the option of camping out on one of the many beaches in this National Park.

Best time to walk this track is over winter. The weather is more settled and of course you are not competing with the crowds. But the days are a bit shorter and the nights are cooler.

Nelson Lakes Shuttles are the answer to all your tramping transport in the Abel Tasman National Park. Our shuttles operate to fit in with your needs.
