Hi Peter,

Thanks again for your excellent service.

I have attached to this email a route description from the Larrikins Creek Hut book which may be useful for other who are intending to go over to the Matiri Range from Larrikans Creek. There is not much info about this and many have decried Derek Shaw’s route as being far more difficult in the doing than the reading suggests.

Cheers

We got our camera this morning.  Thank you so very much for your help.  It was beautifully packed and protected in the box. You live up to your ideal of outstanding customer service.

We will be back to see you next year or the year after.  Thank you again.

Hi Peter,

Here's the photo of the Roaring Lion Hut you requested.  It's not the
greatest photo but hopefully it will work for you.  I have a few
photos of the interior, so let me know if you would like me to send
those as well, and I can do so in separate emails (since the file
sizes are fairly large).

Tom & I sure enjoyed meeting you and Trish and appreciate your
courtesy.  Hope we can ride with you again sometime.
Cheers,
Steve Story

Hello Nelson Lakes shuttles,

Firstly i would like to thank you for running a great website that has
provided good info (which is difficult to find) to me about possible routes.
Obviously the people associated with the company know the national park like
the back of their hand so i was wondering if you could tell me if any route
exists to cross the st james range? i planning on going from travers saddle
over rainbow pass and then make my way to paske saddle or belvedere saddle.
i have to get over the st james range because i then want to go to lake
thompson and then to blue lake via waiau pass. also are there any passes
within the national park that are too dangerous to attempt (eg steep ice
slopes) for an experienced tramper with alpine skills?

thanks a lot

Hi Peter

Thank you so much for the e-mail and the great photos – that was really kind of you to remember.. I think we will have to check out that B&B one day soon.

We had a great tramp and loved the Heaphy – it was just fantastic. Made it to the Aorere Shelter the first night and had the whole camp site to ourselves (bar three possums!). I thort it was better than a first class hotel after such a long day! Caught up with our friends at lunchtime the next day.  All the huts were chocker for the rest of the trip – weather was great too…

Once again, thank you very much for providing us with such wonderful service and for taking us to the Naked Possum.

I hope you have a busy and enjoyable summer. Hope we meet again soon

Best regards

Gabrielle

Hi Peter,
Thanks for all your help while we were in NZ. I was VERY pleased that my mobile was left in your bus and not at the last toilet stop!! I have certainly been singing your praises and that of the Heaphy track (which we thought was wonderful) since my return.
You mentioned another good walk  -similar to Heaphy - which h you had written up on your site. Which one was this? (Maybe for next year!

Cheers Sue

Hi Peter,

Happy New Year. Thanks again for the jump start! And for the timely
pick up - still cant believe we only had to wait 15 seconds!

We continued to have a great break after we parted in the matiri
valley - hitting the great west coast wx over new year with a relaxing
2 day tramp on the inland pack track (worthwhile) and an ascent of Mt
Sefton via the W ridge plus some bouldering at Castlehill.

HI ,Peter forgot to e-mail you last night we were still a bit knacked. Thanks for the wonderful service and taking us up the hill to show us the harbour ,both Sylvie and myself really appreciated it. We also realised how terrific your driving skills are when we got into a shuttle in Auckland with a Russian driver who used up a half life of a set of brake shoes, quarter of a clutch, tenth of a gearbox and a heap of fuel . He also left us all feeling a bit queeze only after a15km ride. Anyway ,if you could send us your bank details and the amount we owe you we can get you fixed up before we head back down to Nelson. Thanks again Kim ,Iona and Sylvie

Hey there!

I just wanted to jot you a quick note to wish you both a very Merry
Christmas! All the family is in town and they have been demanding picture
shows, so our little trip a few months back has been showing itself off
quite a bit lately. Three little nephews here as well, so the place is
really nuts. They are running around non-stop! Oh, and my 4 year old nephew
loves the Kiwi road sign picture. Just so you know.

Just wanted to thank you again for such a wonderful trip – as I keep
looking back at my experiences in that end of the world, that day sure
stands out as one of the very best. I have you both to thank for that
incredible experience. I’ve been giving everyone rave reviews about New
Zealand and they are all anxious to make it over there at some point. So
perhaps next time I head over, you’ll be able to drive a whole crew of us
around!

I hope all is well and that business is booming. A very Merry Christmas to
you both and enjoy the New Year as well. Take care, and thanks again.

Sincerely,
Chris Cyrus

Thanks for the e mail address Peter,
I will remind Colleen about the Snail Photo, as you can see we are back home and back to work, we were only on a small plane on the way home but made good time and where back in Auckland in 1 hr, thankyou so much for all you did for us we all appreciated it, it made a big difference to our trip having someone that was prepared to fit in with our travel plans and to give us so much information on the areas we covered. hope you have a busy prosperous Summer.Kevin and I hope to be travelling in our Motor home by end of next September, so if you do hear of any work that may be going down your way give me a call.

Kind Regards

Hi Peter,

Just wanted to say thanks for the pick up from the end of the Able Tasman Track. It certainly was good value for money as the distance was much further than I thought. I hope you have enjoyed your break as much as we did.

Many thanks again Peter and Trish for all your help and kindness in so many ways.  (I am still munching some of the goodies Peter that you purchased for me.)

If either of you runs across the bus driver who took me to Picton, I would appreciate your thanking him again for checking to make sure that your bed reservation held despite our late arrival and for taking me directly to ferry for a reservation.

I was amused to find myself yesterday on the plane sitting next to a Kiwi who had crossed the Moss pass two days before I had.  He cannot wait to chide four 30 year-old pals who abandoned the ascent with the news that a nearly 69 year-old staggered however and down -- albeit with the encouragement of a very kind young Brit.
Fun as it was, my few days on the Castlepoint Sheep0 Station was a restful respite.

Hope that at some point I will have the chance to reciprocate some of your kindness.  Thanks again.

A big thanks to the Nelson Lakes Shuttles team, Trish, Peter and Kevin who picked up group members from all quarters and ensured we were where we were supposed to be on time. Thanks team, you were very helpful and we enjoyed your company. Incidentally, Trish, I agree with you, Travers Saddle is endless and Moss Pass, whilst challenging, was most enjoyable!

Peter,

Just wanted to say thank you for the excellent service you provided for our group last week when we travelled from Murchison to Karamea. We had a great tramp and managed to have perfect weather too which was a bonus!

I appreciated how easily you accommodated our plans and also the very prompt way you responded to my queries and emails.

I will certainly be recommending your company to others.

Please pass on our thanks to Kevin too.  We all enjoyed the interesting information he could supply as we travelled.

  Best wishes

Hi!  Got home safely and just wanted to thank you again for taking us up to St. Arnaud and back again.  We really enjoyed our visit with you and your "local" insight. What a lovely country and charming people we experienced.  We look forward to our next trip already, with our children this time.
Fond regards,  Steve and Anne Evans, Loomis, Ca. USA  March 2006

Dear Peter and Pam, Thank you both for your  help with our recent
tramping trip to the Nelson Lakes. The additional support in getting
gear and caring for our clothing helped make the trip that much easier.
I trust the  recent rain has been  appreciated  as much  by you and the
Nelsonians  as the lack of it last week  was appreciated by us.
  Kind Regards

November 2005

"In January this year (2005), Nelson Lakes Shuttles provided transport for a Hutt Valley Tramping Club party of 12 which was heading for the Lake Sumner-Hurunui area for an 8-day trip. NLS met the party in Picton on our arrival and took us to St Arnaud for a change of van which suited us as we needed some time to re-arrange our food. Off to Lewis Pass where we dropped off food for the second half of our trip, before we were dropped off at Windy Point. Originally Peter was to pick us up there again at Windy Point but, because 2 of our party had to go out to Hanmer for (not serious) medical reasons, we changed our plans and exited at Lake Taylor. This meant a longer trip for Peter but he was most accommodating. Thus eventually we all ended up in Hanmer before returning to Picton in plenty of time for our ferry sailing.

The advantage of Nelson Lakes Shuttles, apart from the good price, is the flexibility of Peter's service. Provided you have means of contacting him (we had a mountain radio with us for such contingencies), and within reason of course, the flexibility allows you to make changes to original plans should weather or circumstances dictate.
We would recommend NLS again."

As yet we have made no plans for the coming summer but some people are thinking about what they could do. Your services could well be needed!
Best wishes for the summer,
Jan & Arnold Heine

We were certainly very lucky to get into the Blue Lake area.
I would like to say thank-you for your excellent service, which made our trip such a pleasure.
It was all those extra things that you went to the trouble of doing that we all really appreciated such as-arranging the shower facility at the Yellow House/calling in at the DOC info Centre/waiting for us to get ready and head off from the Mt Robert carpark on Saturday and taking the group photo/having the plastic bags available for us to put our dirty gear into/your efficient timely service , your very cheery and informative persona and the recommendations you were able to provide before the tramp.
Many many thanks Peter and we look forward to further trips with your company.
Kind Regards
Jeanne Bright

Hi Peter & Trish,

Just a note to say we have returned safely from the Heaphy Track.  Had a
marvellous time.  I am now off to Lake Taupo for some fishing.

Thank you very much for your assistance.  Your help and company was very much
appreciated.

Best wishes for the future.

Regards

Peter
I ommitted to thank you for the excellent service you gave us on our trip to Nelson Lakes. We really enjoyed your trips and the valued your suggestions on where to visit. We visited Mapua and had a meal at the wharf. We mentioned your name to the cafe owner (he knows you) so you can probably wangle a free cup of coffee!
Thanks again

Hi Pete

Just a short note to say thank you for transporting our group last November.Your local knowledge was so helpful & we appreciated the little things you did for us the including plastic bags for our dirty wet tramping gear.It was so nice of you to stop at The Yellow House Backpackers for us all to have a hot shower before our trip back to Picton. The Home Made Ice Cream they sell was so delicious. The Lady behind the counter said you make it. Others in the group want to return just to try your Ice Cream. Thanks to Trish for providing the wonderful Cottage (Edge Of The Wild). We will be back

Hi Peter,
I'm not sure if you are even going to remember this. You
transported my husband Tony Murphy and I to Nelson Lakes early in December.
We said we would send you a photo of Morgan Hut. It has taken a while but
here it is. The second photo was taken from near the hut. If you want a
better quality image of the hut I can send it. I have been fighting with the
editing software today.
Thanks for your help while we were in New Zealand. It was a
fantastic holiday and we are planning on going back.

Dear Peter, as promised a quick note just to thank you and Trish for your hospitality during our recent demise. After we got through to Nelson I contacted the garage only to find the radiator needed total replacement and eventually we also had to settle for a new motor as well which as you can appreciate was VERY expensive, however the mechanics were very helpful and we were underway by lunchtime on Thursday.

The rest of our trip was extremely enjoyable and uneventful and we arrived back home on Sunday morning.
Once again thanks a heap and we may see you when we pass through next time

Hi Peter

Here are a few photos of Boulder Lake as requested.  The weather wasn't wonderful on the day walking out of there, but it adds to the atmosphere of the photos!  I think that Adelaide Tarn was the nicest place we visited, altho there were 5 in a 4-bunk hut, so i've sent you a couple of photos of that as well !!

Thanks again for the trip to Rolling Junction.

Are you trying to get to Boulder Lake from the Collingwood end?  If so, don't try it in the wet, it would be awful!!  The day we did it was raining, and quite a long section of the track is a limestone slope of about 30 degrees (going up on the way in) and was extremely slippery.  Route finding would be ok from the intentions shelter, just follow the 4wd road to the sign that says Boulder Lake, then follow that.  The track thru the bush is fine (altho would be a grunt on the way up, coz we had lots of run running/skiing down the track!) then the route over the tops has lots of cairns.  The worst thing about the whole trip for Jill was 'The Castles', which if you're not good with heights or jumping would not be very easy -they are a series of slots in the limestone that you have to jump (or really big steps), some of the slots are about 20m down so thats why its not recommended to do it in the dark!!

Good luck, and let me know if you want any more hints?

Yvette

How do Peter

I've been very remiss in not replying to thank you, firstly for your helpfulness in getting us all over Marlborough and Buller, is it, at such short notice and also for kindly sending us the enticing snaps of the Nelson Lakes valleys we know and love.  We really enjoyed meeting you and listening to your, sometimes, rather hair-raising adventures in the wop-wops.  Now we know of your fantastic shuttle service we'll be in touch again before too long I'm sure.  On Waitangi weekend we scooted off to SW Lake Taupo with our home-made sea kayaks on the roof-racks for a a couple of days paddling.  The western edge of the lake retains a strip of pristine bush in really good nick now the possums have been hammered and in fact, most of the land on that side of the lake remains in the hands of the Tuwharetoa .....I think. ( Im a bit hazy about that I have to admit).   Next hols we're taking our double over to Abel Tasman or possibly Takaka for a paddle back to Nelson....or whatever, WX permitting.

OK.  I hope business is booming for you.  I can't imagine otherwise.

kindest regards

Malcolm & Janet

Hi Peter,

We had a great trip thanks. We were out for 11 days and only had one day confined to tents due to bad weather. The weather was a little bit unpredictable the rest of the time but it did not prevent us from reaching our goals. From Boulder Lake we followed the Douglas Range to Fenella Hut and did several side trips including Anatoki Peak, Kakapo Peak and Mt Snowden. One night it snowed and the following morning we crunched through fresh snow on our way out to Anatoki Peak.

We spent a bit of time at Fenella Hut, doing some more side trips, and then followed the Peel Range to Balloon Hut, camping high on the Peel Range for one night on the way. Then it was a side trip to Mt Arthur via Gordons Pyramid and out to Flora Saddle via Salisbury Lodge.

In the end we arrived at Flora Saddle 1 day early. We were hoping to ring John from there to get him to come up a day early but unfortunately the phone at Flora Saddle wasn't working. So we walked and finally hitched out to Nelson that afternoon, the weather by then was bad. Once at Nelson I rang John to cancel our return bus trip and got through to his voice mail and also left a message at his home. I hope he got the messages OK and was not inconvenienced by our hitching out early.

Thanks for all the transport, everything worked out fine. Next time we are tramping in Nelson we'll give you a call.

Regards
Ashley

Peter,
thank you for your friendly service from St Arnaud to Lake Rotoroa.
Thank you particularly for the information you left for us at the yellow
house about the Cobb Valley.
We travelled up the narrow winding road (must be very tight in your
van?) and hiked into Fenella Hut on Monday night. The weather was windy
and cloudy but generally fine. It cleared up overnight and we hiked up
(almost) to Kekapo Peak before returning for lunch to the hut. We hiked
out that afternoon after taking many photos.
The hut was full on Monday night! Everyone except our group of 3 were
New Zealanders which was a contrast to the earlier hike up
D'Urville-Moss Pass-Sabine-Mt Roberts where we mainly met overseas
tourists like us. Perhaps the smart kiwis visit the less known
locations?
We met a group tramping from Boulder Lake via Lonely lake to Fenella
then intending to go along the Peel Range aiming to eventually come out
at Rolling Junction (10 days).
Peter do you know the name of the lady who has taken over the yellow
house (she is a mountain runner). I wanted to email her to thank her but
dont know her name.
Thanks again, I am sure we will be back now we have had a taste of
theKahurangi National Park,
best regards

When you dropped me off at the Junction at the end of March you mentioned a 12 day walk from round Nelson to St Arnaud and that you could give me so information on it.

In early April I went to India for some walking and some climbing on trekking peaks.  I hope you can open the attached shot I took looking up to Nanda Devi East and Longstaff's Col.

I have just about recovered from that trip and the 7 stitches I had to have in a cut on my hand and am now looking to what trips I can do later in the year.

I want to do some more extended walking in Kahurangi and what you mentioned quite appealed to me.

I have Derek Shaw's North West Nelson book and have some ideas from that but with your experience I think you can set me straight and tell me what transport arrangements I would need to make.

Incidentally what is winter walking like in the Park?

Best wishes

hi there peter....just checking out your website photos.... great...but obviously theres still heaps of places to explore..so will no doubt be back...thanks for your service last week..it certainly made for an enjoyable trip and when we come down on tramping club trips will looking to use you again....would appreciate if you could pass on info re Sabine-ray Gibson....Simons surname for me to contact via DOC....also anything else you may have that may help me put the pieces together....dad had the Holmes interview on tape of Sabine which I watched when home...sad I never got to met him... also if you are able to send copy of memorial photo it would be much appreciated..thanks Maria Clement

Peter,

Thanks for the lift to Lake Rotoroa on the 27th, we had a great trip and some beautiful weather to get up and see Angelus in all its glory.

On the way over we discussed the Rainbow Rage and I’m keen to get down for some mountain biking but was wondering if you could let me know a bit more about the huts you can stay at.

Where are the huts?

Are they DOC huts or do you need permission from the land owner?

If you’ve done the trip before what would be a sensible itinerary?

Thanks for your help and hopefully we’ll be down in the Nelson area again soon.

Regards,

Joe

Thanks again Peter, I hope I see you again in the future.  Angelas mt has been
my favorite so far.  Im doing the rootburn and the Kepler back to back.  Mabey
see you on the way back to Auckland.  Jennifer

Hello Peter,
