  Important notice to visitors

Angelus Hut – Nelson Lakes National Park

The sleeping capacity of Angelus Hut has been reduced to 26. The reasons for this are to provide more living space for visitors and create a pack storage area so that packs are not left blocking the fire exits.

  Upper Glenroy Hut removal

The Upper Glenroy Hut (M31 605 825) has been removed as agreed in the 2004 National Recreation Opportunities Review.

Important notice to visitors

  West Matiri Cableway removal

  The West Matiri Cableway was closed recently because of a problem with the pulley wheel bearings. However, encroachment of the river, caused by floods, means we have decided to remove it because it is no longer safe.

This will not be replaced

  Leatham Cableway - removed

Due to the deterioration of essential components on the Leatham Cableway the cableway has been removed.

  Planning for a new pedestrian bridge is underway and it is expected this will be in place before June 2008.

Clarence Reserve

  Important notice to visitors

  Relocation of DOC huts in the Clarence Reserve

For the next six weeks contractors will be relocating DOC huts in the Clarence Reserve.

Willows Hut will be relocated to Quail Flat. Fidget and Muzzle Huts will be relocated to the confluence of Snowgrass Stream and the Clarence River.

Until the contractors complete this project the huts will be closed to the public.

Goose Flat and Bluff Dump Huts will remain open during this period.
